They need to get it together!!
Absolutely horrible. These people should not be allowed to practice medicine. For each appointment I waited an average of 45 minutes to be shuffled back to sit among other patients and staff for labs and be given a room long enough to be asked if I had fluid leakage or cramps.. I would be in the ER not waiting 45 minutes to see a nurse! I went here til 32 weeks. At that point I had still not seen a doctor, only nurses and nurse practitioners and at more than one appointment I wasted all that time waiting to have them not even measure my belly or listen to the heartbeat! And then have the nerve to tell me I would have a whooping cough shot. Not ask, tell. It is completely up to the patient what medical procedures you will accept, and I declined and took my records. You should be seeing the person who will deliver you and forming trust, here I would've met the person while in labor or shortly before. And due to the way they treated my pregnancy, I'm sure they push interventions, induction and c sections. I switched to a midwife and couldn't have been happier with the outcome and my delivery. It was more of a drive but so worth it to be treated with respect and feel that my baby was valued.
Dr. Stroud is a amazing doctor, and his nurse is awesome as well !!! Happy to have him as my doc !!!
I used OB/GYN Associates of Decatur during my pregnancy and, while the care I received there did result in the successful delivery of my healthy baby girl, I do not plan to use them again in the future. One of my biggest complaints was having to use their rotation of doctors instead of getting to choose one who I would get to see for all of my appointments. As a very anxious and excited first time mother, it would have been comforting and reassuring to get to meet with the same person at each visit (or even most visits!), but when I would request to be scheduled with my preferred doctor, it was rarely possible. It's not because my schedule wasn't flexible, either. I was simply told that Dr. So-and-so was "unavailable" and that I was going to see ______ at _______ time on _______ date. It always seemed as if their scheduling practices were based on their convenience and preferences, not on those of their patients. I ran into another strange issue with them when I attempted to schedule my 4D ultrasound. I was informed by the billing office that, because I was on a payment plan and wouldn't be paid-in-full by a certain date in my pregnancy, I was automatically disqualified from their 4D ultrasound service. Even when I offered to pay for it up front and out-of-pocket, I was denied that service. I don't understand. No--I couldn't afford to hand over thousands of dollars at one time for all of my prenatal care because I have crappy insurance and am not drowning in money, but I did always make on-time payments (even paying off my bill ahead of schedule) and was willing to pay a little extra for that ultrasound. Even so, it was unavailable to me. So they'll stay on you about those prenatal care payments, but if you try to throw money at them to acquire one extra service that they routinely offer, they turn you away. Strange. My final complaint is along the same lines as the rest of the cold and impersonal care I received, except is maybe the most upsetting. I fell into a pretty severe case of postpartum depression really early on and was fortunate to schedule an appointment with the OB/GYN who delivered my daughter to try and discuss it with him. Unfortunately, though, he never once made eye contact with me during that visit. He interrupted me, didn't seem to have listened to or absorbed much of what I said to him about what was going on, and then told me all he could do was prescribe me a small amount of anti-anxiety medicine and that, because I was almost 6 weeks postpartum, he was "kicking [me] to the curb" (his words exactly) and that I would be "dismissed" to my family doctor for this problem. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but OB/GYNs are women's health professionals, right? And postpartum depression is often specifically a women's health issue, possibly linked to hormonal problems and PTSD associated with a traumatic delivery, yes? So why would my OB/GYN not only basically disregard what I was going through, but pawn me off on another doctor who had no knowledge of what I went through during my pregnancy or delivery? I'll never understand.
After learning I was pregnant, I got the ball rolling and knew I was going to use OBGYN Associates since it was nearest to my home and convenient. I began to have bleeding and as I called everyday to see if they can "work me in" as advised by Best Start, each time I was told no go to the ER. 3 times I went to the ER and a referral to OBGYN Associates. This entire time being told it was normal. Finally I had my 1st appointment on 09/05/17. After getting checked in by a very rude lady, I give a urine sample. Explained that I had been to the ER 3 times. The nurse's aid took my information to the nurse practitioner as I sat in the hallway of the patients being checked out. Then the nurse's aide comes to relay a message of lab work. I didn't get to see a nurse or a doctor and was told in the hallway full of other patients and staff members that I may be having a miscarriage and the "plan of action ". I give blood. Had to call myself the next day to see if they knew anything about my lab results. While waiting for someone to call me back, I miscarried. 1 minute later a lady calls to tell me on the phone I was going to miscarry. I hung up the phone. Later that day another lady called me back to tell me my lab work camera back and my numbers where increasing. I told her what the first lady said and that I miscarried already. She said "oh sorry I was looking at the numbers from the hospital". Then I was told to come back on 09/12/17 for more lab work to make sure it was a complete miscarriage. I went back. The lady at the desk says "have you been seen here in the last month?"...I got back to lab have bloodwork and still yet to see a doctor or nurse about any of this. Please save yourself the trouble. Go somewhere so you can see a doctor. Do Not Use These People!!!!
So yes, while they are capable of delivering babies and keeping an eye on your health during your pregnancy, I don't know how much more they're capable of. I ended up kind of feeling like a nameless, faceless emotionally unstable blimp that they cut a baby out of at their convenience, and who helped them pay their bills. Not at all what I would consider warm, friendly, comforting care.
